Alameda ArtsAlameda Arts is an after school program for elementary school kids here in Alameda based at Paden School. I first heard about Alameda Arts by being one of the kids to go through the program starting when I was in 1st grade at Paden. Years later when I was in High School the program had expanded from the original 10 which I was a part of to over 100 kids. Miss Kate is someone I have known and looked up to since I was little. I have liked her and felt safe with her, so when she offered me a job I happily accepted. I was an intern for about six months before I became a paid employee. My job included watching the kids, helping them with their homework and art projects, supervising yard while kids played and helping with clean up. It was great work experience that taught me a lot about the hard work it takes to work with children. It taught me that you have to have boundaries with kids and sometimes even be strong with them because they can be challenging and sometimes even mean. Mostly I learned never to take things personally, but to let what kids and others say roll off my back. I think working at Alameda Arts has helped me prepare for future jobs, and taught me the value of hard work and self respect when working with difficult and challenging environments. Hours Log: I had volunteered there until about march 27 until July 17 when I had to stop volunteering because I wanted to start working there! This volunteer job has given me a lot of experience and has shown me a lot of great working skills over the time I had worked there. |
